Un altra mapa, vinga

Cultural diversity and socializing

- Body Language
- Let's chat in English!
- Cultural tips

Feu-hi una ullada, ok?

Can you guess what they are loading into the aircraft?

It's a hard disk drive back in 1956... with 5 MB of storage.

In September 1956 IBM launched the 305 RAMAC, the first 'SUPER' computer with a hard disk drive (HDD). The HDD weighed over a ton and stored a 'whopping' 5 MB of data.

Do you appreciate your 8 GB memory stick now? Or your 160GB Ipod?

Newseum

WHOEVER CAME UP WITH THIS IS REALLY GOOD..

Just put your mouse on a city anywhere in the world and the newspaper headlines pop up...

Double click and the page gets larger....you can read the entire paper on some if you click on the right place. You can spend forever here.

Also, if you look at the European papers, the far left side of Germany will
pop up as The Stars & Stripes (European edition, of course). AND, this site changes every day with the publication of new editions of the paper.

Hope you enjoy this.

New Year's resolutions

Maybe it's a bit late, but... nah, it's okay... Try to work with this new year's resolutions. Good to practice will, predictions, and VOCABULARY!

However, here you have 10 reasons NOT to make them ;)

1. They set you up to fail. You write a whole list of them, or maybe just one or two. But there’s a reason you’re waiting until now to start working on them. They’re difficult, and you’ve failed before. You will fail again.

2. Everybody does it. Why would you want to be part of the crowd like that?

3. Losing weight should be a whole lifestyle change. Instead of trying to lose weight every January, actually change your lifestyle – and you won’t have to keep adding “lose weight” to your list of goals.

4. January is the wrong reason. The new year is the wrong reason to commit to your goals. Feel free to set goals, but don’t chop them up as New Year’s Resolutions. That’s a stupid reason to make positive changes.

5. Just make one. Then you’re not making new years resolutions, you’re making one resolution. And one is manageable.

6. There are better ways. Do your research, and instead of killing yourself over committing to silly new year’s resolutions – learn about setting realistic goals and start making steps to achieve them.

7. Bad economy. Finances are too freaking tight to start adding a bunch of fluff to your life. Stick to the basics and get through the next few months.

8. No need for reminders. You’ve failed at enough things already. Do you really need some more reminders about how much you suck?

9. You’re already stressed out enough. Don’t throw 10 new goals on your plate right now. You’re stressed out enough.

10. They’re probably the same. If your resolutions are probably the same as last year’s, then that’s just more evidence that New Year’s Resolutions suck.

So if you’ve made some new year’s resolutions, it’s time to chuck them in the garbage. Do you want to make changes in your life? Go for it. But be realistic and down to earth about it.

The lemon tree

This is a lovely song to practice English. Easy to understand and really funny!! Also try to find another video (one day I'll look for it myself) without the lyrics and make your students guess the world while watching and listening. Enjoy it (turn speakers on!!)

Or you can just show the lyrics as a powerpoint, althoug I've found a video instead:

Learning and teaching English

Teaching is more complicated that it seems. But you not only teach. Teachers learn everyday from everyone. Just wanted to share this with you. Sorry the quality is sometimes not so good.

Idioms

Hello, everyone

Don't pretend you're the best English teacher in the world. You're not! Even if you are an English native speaker you can improve your teaching day after day.

This is a blog where I intend to share ideas, tools and resources that I use with my students in English lessons. Of course not all of them are mine... But they work!!
